Free Government AI Courses: India, the UK and Singapore (Checked 2026)

India's YUVA AI for ALL, the UK's AI Skills Boost and Singapore's SkillsFuture Credit, checked on official pages: what is free, who qualifies, what you get.

The short answer

Yes, all three governments point to free or funded AI learning, but in very different shapes. India has YUVA AI for ALL, a free 4.5 hour self-paced course from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) that ends in a Government of India certificate, plus the free SWAYAM platform. The UK has AI Skills Boost, which says every adult in the UK can take free short AI courses and earn a virtual badge, alongside free Skills Bootcamps in England. Singapore does not run one free national AI course; instead SkillsFuture Credit gives citizens money to spend on approved courses, and a government page lists curated AI courses by level.

So if you want a free government certificate, India's course is the closest match. If you are in the UK, the AI Skills Boost courses are the quickest free start. In Singapore, think of it as funding rather than a free course.

LearnWithZavi is not affiliated with any government, and none of our courses are part of these schemes. This is an independent guide.

India: YUVA AI for ALL and SWAYAM

YUVA AI for ALL

This is the one most people mean when they search for a free AI course by the Government of India. According to the PIB press release of 18 November 2025, MeitY launched it under the IndiaAI Mission as a free course introducing AI "to all Indians, especially the youth".

What the official pages say:

  • It is a 4.5 hour, self-paced course in six modules covering what AI is, how it is changing education and work, using AI tools safely, Indian use cases and what comes next.
  • It is free and available on FutureSkills Prime, iGOT Karmayogi and other platforms.
  • Every learner who completes it gets an official certificate from the Government of India.
  • The IndiaAI article says that if you want the certificate, you should complete the course on the FutureSkills Prime course page. The modules are also on the IndiaAI Mission YouTube channel, but watching there is not the certificate route.

It is a literacy course, not a technical one. It teaches you to understand and use AI, including prompting, rather than to build models. That is exactly the right level for most people.

SWAYAM

SWAYAM is a Government of India platform hosting courses from Class 9 to postgraduate level, with national coordinators including NPTEL for engineering and AICTE, UGC and IGNOU for other areas. The official page is precise about cost: courses are free to learn, but if you want a SWAYAM certificate you must register for a final proctored exam that comes at a fee, taken in person at a designated centre. Search the catalogue for artificial intelligence and check each course page for its own certificate rules.

The UK: AI Skills Boost, Skills Bootcamps and more

AI Skills Boost

On 28 January 2026 the government announced that "every adult in the UK is eligible" to take free AI courses under AI Skills Boost, a joint government and industry programme aiming to upskill 10 million workers by 2030.

What GOV.UK says:

  • The courses are developed by industry partners and have been checked against Skills England's AI foundation skills for work benchmark.
  • They are online, some take under 20 minutes, and they focus on using simple AI tools at work, such as drafting text, creating content and handling admin.
  • People who complete them receive a virtual AI foundations badge.
  • The courses sit on the government's AI Skills Hub, linked from the press release.

The badge is a foundations badge, not a qualification.

Skills Bootcamps (England)

Searches for "government funded AI courses UK" usually land here. The official JobHelp page says Skills Bootcamps are:

  • Free if you take the course yourself rather than through your employer.
  • For people aged over 19 and living in England who are employed, self-employed or unemployed, with extra criteria on some courses.
  • Up to 16 weeks, classroom, online, on the job or a mix, with a job interview offer at the end.

Skills Bootcamps cover many sectors, and which AI or digital bootcamps exist depends on where you live, so check what is running locally. If you claim Universal Credit, the same page says you can apply and keep claiming.

Free courses for jobs and civil service learning

Free courses for jobs offers a free level 3 qualification in England, and "digital" is one of the listed subjects. You qualify if you are aged 19 or over and earn below GBP 25,750 or are unemployed, although some areas set slightly different rules. It is a qualification route, not an AI course as such.

If you are a civil servant, GOV.UK also lists free AI courses for civil servants, from awareness to practitioner level. Those are for government staff only.

Singapore: SkillsFuture Credit and curated AI courses

How SkillsFuture Credit works

Singapore's approach is funding, not one free course. The official SkillsFuture Credit page sets out two tiers:

  • Opening credit of $500 (Singapore dollars) for all Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above, usable for all courses listed on the MySkillsFuture portal, with no expiry.
  • Mid-career credit of $4,000 for citizens aged 40 and above, usable only on selected courses, with no expiry.

The credit can be used on top of existing course fee subsidies, and you log in with Singpass to check your balance and submit a claim before the course starts. Whether a particular course ends up free depends on its fee, the subsidies and how much credit you have left.

SkillsFuture Credit only applies to approved courses listed on the MySkillsFuture portal (or ones approved on request). LearnWithZavi is not a SkillsFuture-approved provider, and you cannot use SkillsFuture Credit on our courses. They are free anyway, but they do not count towards anything in the scheme.

Where to find AI courses

The government's SME AI Skills Launchpad publishes a list of curated AI-skills courses grouped into three levels: AI-Aware, AI-Literate and AI-Fluent, plus partner-curated courses. The AI-Aware level points to AI for Everyone (AI4E) by AI Singapore, and the Launchpad also mentions free AI masterclasses. The Launchpad is aimed at businesses, but the course list is a useful map for individuals too.

Which one should you start with?

  • In India: start with YUVA AI for ALL on FutureSkills Prime if you want the certificate. Use SWAYAM when you want a longer, university-style course.
  • In the UK: start with an AI Skills Boost course for a quick, free foundation. Look at a Skills Bootcamp if you want a longer, job-linked course in England.
  • In Singapore: check your SkillsFuture Credit balance, then choose from the curated AI list at the level that fits you.

Wherever you are, the government course gives you the basics and a recognisable name. It will not make you fluent on its own. Fluency comes from using AI on real work every week. Our free courses you can take without coding and Getting Started with ChatGPT are built for that practice stage. For how to judge any course, including these, see How to Choose a Free AI Course and Free AI Courses in India.

FAQ

Is there a free Government of India AI course with a certificate?

Yes. YUVA AI for ALL, launched by MeitY under the IndiaAI Mission, is free, takes about 4.5 hours and gives a Government of India certificate to everyone who completes it. IndiaAI says to complete it on FutureSkills Prime to get the certificate.

Are SWAYAM certificates free?

No. SWAYAM courses are free to study, but the certificate needs you to register for a proctored exam that comes at a fee, taken in person at a designated centre.

Are there free UK government AI courses?

Yes. GOV.UK says every adult in the UK can take free AI Skills Boost courses, checked against Skills England's benchmark, and earn a virtual AI foundations badge. Skills Bootcamps in England are also free if you do not go through your employer.

Can I use SkillsFuture Credit for AI courses?

Yes, if the course is listed on the MySkillsFuture portal. The $500 opening credit covers all listed courses; the $4,000 mid-career credit covers selected ones only. It cannot be used on LearnWithZavi, which is not an approved provider.

Is a government AI certificate worth more than other free certificates?

It carries a recognisable name, which helps. But these are foundation-level courses, not degrees or professional qualifications, so treat the certificate as a sign you have started, not proof of expertise. Our guide to free AI courses with certificates covers what certificates can and cannot do.
